A COW'S CONSTITUTION.

BURIED IN SWAMP FOR 13 DAYS. NOW GIVING NORMAL SUPPLY. A seven-year-old Shorthorn cow be longing to Mr S. H. West, of Pokutu, near Te Awamutu, was missing at milking time on the night of February 4 (says the Waikato Times). After - a thorough search for several days she was given up as lost. On Sunday afternoon, February 17 (13 days later); whilst Mr West was out walking, a groan was heard, and on approaching the edge of a swamp the cow was discovered. This spot had been passed several times during the search, bu- the high raupo had hidden the cow. She was lying in 4ft of muddy water with just her head and shoub ders clear. Everything within her reach had been eaten, including high raupo. pampas grass, and rushes. Five men pulled the cow out with ropes, horses being unable to stand the swamp, and within five minutes she walked away. She appeared a more bag of bones, ’’fninus hair on va’ious parts which had been submerged. Being well cared for and fed on maize and turnips, the animal was milked once a day for several davs, and, what is more remarkable, has now come back to her normal supply. Her 'test previous to her disappearance was 151 b milk at 3.6 test, and her latest test is 151 b milk at 3.5 test, so her experience has had no marked effect. To look at the animal now no one could tell what she suffered, excepting what may be termed the waterline. which is plainly visible. This i,s a remarkable case, and shows th 3 great constitution of the cow. ,
