OLD MAN’S DEATH.
MISSING FOR THREE WEEKS.
REMAINS FOUND IN WELL.
The remains of an old-age pensioner named Charles Sergeant, who had been residing by himself for a nutuher of years in an isolated part of Waihi West, known as Waitete Bush, was found at tlie bottom of a well an his property on Monday by the police. Sergeant had been missing about three weeks. It is presumed that during the recent dry weather he was engaged sinking the well deeper, or had accidentally fallen down the well, the depth of which is fifty feet.
Neighbours first noticed a fowl lying dead about the place and no sign of Sergeant. Subsequently investigations led to the discovery of the re--Ho -, in the water at the bottom of the well.
The old man had resided at Waihi for about 27 years. He has a son and a ’’aughtcr, both teachers in the employ of the Auckland Education Board. It is reported that his wife resides at Papakura.
