FINANCIAL STATEMENT. The general rate statement tabled at the last meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council showed that in Kopuarahi riding the rates struck totaUcH £1224. Of this £617 had been collected, while the expenditure was £1035 for general and £256 for riding. The debit balance for the tiding was £674. Of the other ridings Tutua struck - reeled £l-522, expended £llll general) and £994( riding), debit balance £583 ; Horahia Struck £1416, collected £963, expended £lOl4 (general) and £2ll (riding), debit balance £262 ; Kbrepeehi struck £1129, collected £562, expended £B6B (general) and £ll4 (riding), debit balance £450 , Netherton struck £lBB9, collected £1278, expended £ll2O (general) and £6BB (riding), debit balance £530 Patetonga, struck £928, collected £2lB, expended £751 (general) and £2Bl (riding), debit £Bl4 ; Ngatea struck £1062, collected £779, expended £952 (general) and £lBO (riding), debit balance £353 ; Pipiroa struck £1092, collected £774, expended £966 (general) and £387 (riding), debit balance £579 ; Waitakaruru struck £1733, collected £1685, expended £1074 (general) and £ll2O (riding), debit balance £509. The amount by which the general rate ha.s been anticipated is £4'754. The amount of general expenditure is the share allocated for the time being to the various ridings according to their valuations, because until an adjustment is made whereby the charge for the useof machinery, punts, etc., and the supply of metal could be charged to the various works the amounts have been charged to suspense accounts and divided among the various ridings. During the month a commute was engaged in adjusting these accounts, and recommended that the following charges should be made for the use of machinery to the riding or loans using the machinery. Where the charges arc at per clay, this charge to be for actual time used : Punts, Is per yard of metal carried ; roller and scarifier, £2 10s per clay ; motor truck, £3 per day; tractor and grader, £1 per clay; grader alone, 5s per day; rails, £45
per mile per annum. The metal has been apportioned out to the various places to which it was sent, and the cost was dealt with under the following heads, opposite wihch has been put the cost■ Quarrying and crushing, 4s 2d petyard ; overhead, 4s per yard ; carting, quarry to punts, 2s to 2s 2d per yard ; punting. 2s tp 3s per yard ; unloading, Is 2d .per yard. The committee had gone over the records for the past year and presented a statement of where the various items of machinery had been used and the destination of the metal crushed. The approximate expenditure after tlm adjustment was: Kopuarahi. general £769, riding £355; Turua, £827 and £1371 ; Horahia, £715 and £355 ; Kerepeehi, £645 and £227; TNeth-l erton, £832 and £959 ; Patetonga, £558 and £?81 ; Ngatea, £7OB and £181; Pipiroa £7lB and £393 ; Waitakaruru, £798 and £ll2l. The recommendations of the committee and the adjustments of the clerk were approved of by the council. The balances in the loan accounts on February 29 were: Netherton roads loan, £3040; Kopu ferry approach roads loan, £271; Purirl ferry and approach roads loan, £403 ; Ngatiapua East road loan, £240 ; housing loan, £3720'; machinery loan, £7657 ; Turua-Netherton roads loan, £9135.
The receipts for the month of February were : .General rate, £2445 Is ; hospital rate, £495 13s 6d; special rates, £633 18,s Bd, with miscellaneous receipts making a total of £3690 Ils Id. The debit balance as per cash-book of the county fund account atJP’ebriiary 19 1924, was £1917 4s 3d.
