One of the Hauraki Plains settlers recently harvested eighty bushels of barley per acre from a tvelve-acie field. This, sold at 6s a bushel, will return a much better yield for the six months that the ground was occupied than had it been used for dairying. Them was a fair attendance of buyers at the Paeroa stock sale yosterday. and although yarding of stock w;is not heavy it is worthy of recorl that every pen was disposed of tit satisfactory prices. It appears that some of the farmers missed the opportunity to bring stock into the yards through the sale being insufficiently advertised.

During the month of February the estate of Thomas Johnson, of Paeroa, was accepted for adihinislraition by the Public Trustee.

The Paeroa Borough Finance Committee reported to the council meeting lasi evening that the revenue during ti.e month amounted to £BO Is 9d, and expenditure to £1573 15s lid. Th; balance to the credit of the District Fund account was £1243 2s sd, plus £lll6 7s' lid, the amount paid on behalf of the sewerage and street improvements loan accounts. It was recommended the passing of accouiKS concerning the 1920 loan account financial statement, which would leave the credit balance in the sewerage loan of £7 7s 9d, less £Bll 4s lOd debit to D.F. account, street improvements loan Us 4'd, less £607 9s B'l debit to D.F. account.

The following resolution, to the Lands Drainage Engineer, was carried unanimously at a meeting of Piniroa settlers on Wednesday last: “That this meeting of Pipiroa settlers considers the season is now upon us when something should be done to the drains in the Pipiroa area to give us better drainage facilities, and we would respectfully ask that you inform us within a week of what you purpose doing. We feel that nothing short of widening and deepening the drains on Pipiroa Road and opening up Donaghy’s outlet and petting the flood-gate in order will give us satisfactory relief. We feel so Keenly on this question that if something is not done shortly we will have to petition the Minister for Lands and-ask him to fulfil his promise.”

The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has received a cable from its representative at Buenos Aires, South America, advising the following shipments to the United Kingdom for the fortnight ended the Bth inst from Argentine only-112,500 quarters chilled beef, 22,944 quarters frpze’i beef, 54,992 earcases frozen mutton, 44.058 carcases frozen lamb. The quantity shipped to the Continent of Europe during the sarqc period totalled 47,851 quarters frozen beef, 5,720 carcases frozen mutton, and 363 carcases frozen lamb.

Harvest Thanksgivings in connection with the Church of England have lately been held in the Hauraki Plains Parish. The congregations have been excellent, and everyone has given very freely. On the evenings following !he Thanksgivings there was a social and sale of produce. The results so far have been very encouraging, Turua contributing £23 and Patetonga £22 in aid of the Parish car, and Kerepeehi £3O in aid of the building fund.

It is quite evident that some of the recently arrived immigrants from Englar d are of the right stamp (says an exchange). A gentleman wanting a cadet on a farm got a reply from a visitor who had come out to Auckland with six sons and an adopted daughter, in order to avoid the unemployment dole. She only arrived a week ago, but has already got work, for herself, and was, anxious to get her boys hi billets.
