PIPIROA WATER SUPPLY.

BATING AREA TO BE DEFINED.

The proposed water supply schems for Pipiroa and part of Ngatea riding was discussed by the Plains County Council on Tuesday last.

The Minister of Lands wrote advising that the Lands Department could not subsidise the water supply .scheme out of the Hauraki Plains settlement account. The application for .a subsidy had been forwarded to tlw' Minister of Public Works.

Mr E. F. Adams wrote with referonce to the reservation of catchment areas stating that he would not recommend any land excepting Crown Lands, as there was now more or less farming and stock raising on the private lands. In his opinion it would be far more economic and satisfactory to get power to deal with the sewerage of the occupied portions oy isolating the discharge from sheds, piggeries, and privies. The cost this would be trifling compared with the purchase of the land. It would enable the land to be used, and would give the occupiers very much better sanitary conditions.

The clerk reported on the result of the re/erendum. Eighty votes had been received for and 23 against. ,—*> There was a block vote between the river and the Waitakaruru canal and the Rawe Rawe road and the sea for the proposal, but the area south, of Rn.we Rawe road .showed an equal number for as against. A block vote against, was recorded in the area west of the Waitakaruru canal.

it was decided that Crs. Parfitt, Harris, and McLoughlin and the clerk decide upon the rating area and hav; powre to make arrangements with Mr Alanis to prepare a detailed scheme and to generally have power to act.
