NEW ZEALAND APPLES.
BIG OVERSEAS CONSIGNMENTS 36.000 CASES READY TO LEAVE. The present is an exceedingly busy lime for New Zealand fruitgrowers, as the bulk of the season’s crop of apples is now being sent out to overseas markets as fast as steamers are available. In addition to two steamers which left for London with apples during last week, 36,000’ are being sent away by the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation this week. The Suffolk and the Matakana will each take 5000 cases to South America, while the Devon will carry 16,000 cases and the Tasmania 10,00.0 cases for London. The following week the Hororata will pick up 21,000 cases at Wellington. and 7,500 cases* at Dunedin. Of this consignmnet, 5000 cases will dp landed at South American ports, and the remainder will be taken to London and Hull. Early in April the Maimoa will take 23.000 cases to London. To show that the New Zealand apple industry is assuming quite im portant dimensions, it is only neces-, sary to state that the Fruitgrowers’ Federation expects to send a quarter of a million cases overseas this season.
