POWER BOARD.

- THAMES VALLEY MEETING. The regular meeting o£ the Thames Valley Power Board was held at Te Aroha yesterday, there being present; Messrs F. H. Claxton (chairman), F. E. Flatt, W. E. G. Willy, G. Howie, J. Pohlen. J. W. McCormick, J. W. Anderson, J. B. Thomas, F. M. Strange, <. A. Arthur, P. Grace, R. Sprague (sec ■ retary-manager), and N. G. McLeod (engineer). A.M.P. SOCIETY LOAN. •Messrs Chapman, Skerrett, Tripp, and , Blair submitted their legal : charges, amounting to £132 6s 6d, in connection with the raising of £75,000 .from the A.M.P. Society. Mr C. A. Arthur said that pjjssiblv the charge made was a maximum one, and he thought the society might be approached in the matter. It was decided to defer payment until next meeting. EXEMPTION SOUGHT. The drainage engineer at Kercpeehi asked that in view of a motor being ' installed in the department’s work\hop the offecs should be exempt from the increase in charges. He maintained that, in accordance with a circular of the board which pointed out that in order to be exempt from the 50 per cent, increase it would be necessary to be a user of power in some manner other than under the charge of £3 per annum for heating point only, the department was entitled to exemption.;—Received.

APPLICATION FOR TRANSFER.

Mr A. E. Gee, Tauiiei, applied for a transfer from the Thames Valle,’ Board’s district to the Central dis-, trict. He wa,s at least a mile from the present line, his property being on the confiscation line between th? Piako and Waikato counties. The Central Board was at present constructing a line running past his property, and was prepared to supply him with power. The chairman said that the consumer could not be struck c-.it of the board's area in the meantime. ?,lr Thomas thought there was a posgibility of Swamp Road being a pavalfie proposition, and he said he would like to see it canvasse'd, the applicant to he informed as to the board’s intentions in the matter. NGATEA CABLE. In reply to an inquiry from the Marine Department the board’s engineers advised that the electric cable across the Piako River at Ngatea was laid at a distance of 15% chains north (down ’ stream) from the Ngatea bridge. INSECTS IN TIMBER. The Department of Agriculture, Biology Section, acknowledged recepit of the specimen of hardwood timber for analysis, and stated that the result would be forwarded as soon as possible. The chairman said that in eompanv with Mr Anderson he had inspected a bo’-er-infected pole at Matamata, bui he had not had sufficient time to go f irthei into the matter. DEFECTIVE TRANSFORMER. Five settlers on Awaiti West Road, Nt thei ton, wrote petitioning for a reduction on the present quarter’s account for electricity on account of having a defective transformer installed on the road, causing the reversion to hand milking through lack of sufficient power. The chairman stated that there had not been sufficient transformers, and this one had been overloaded. Air Flatt said the settlers had had ;> had run, and he thought the board should consider their petition. The chairman pointed cut that if a reduction was made similar requests would have to be considered.

Jfr Flatt said that a reduction would have far-reaching effects, but he thought the settlers should receive the sympathy of the board. SIZES OF PULLEYS. Mr Thomas complained that some of the settlers had been put to consideraole trouble through delays in installing motors,-as information re garding the size of pulleys had been unobtainable. He thought that those installing motors should be provided v ith this information. On the suggestion of Mr Strange it wis decided that the officials should forward the information concerning Ihe size of pulleys to the office, and then tl.e information to be supplied to the applicant for the installation of motors. ♦
