MATCHES ON PLAINS.

TURUA WINS CUP. The closing matches of the Daidlaw Cup competition were played on Friday and Saturday last, when Turua South defeated Kopuarahi, Pateroa defeated Kerepeehi, and Turua added sufficient points to its score to make its position as winner of the competition unassailable. As' there were races at Thames on Saturday the association had not stipulated that maches should be played. The Waitakaruru-Turua match commenced early, but was not finished. The third men’s singles and the second men’s doubles will be played later. Kerepeehi had a very weak team, comprising mostly of B grade playersThe Turua SouthKopuarahi ma-’-.ch was played on Friday. The position of the various teams at present is that Turua, with two sets to play, has 62 points; Waitakaruru, with one match and two sets 1 , has 36 points ; Pateroa has 44 points, Hopai 4'l, Turua South 34, Kopuarahi 27, and Kerepeehi 14, with one yet to play. WILLIAMS SHIELD MATCHES. The Waitakaruru Tennis Club de aided at a general meeting on Monday evening not to depart from the rules governing the Williams Memorial Shield matches, but to insist that the matches be played on the court of the holder. The reason given was that the club could not afford the expense of travelling.
