TENNIS.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. HANDICAPS FOR TOURNAMENT. A meeting of the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association was held at Ngatea on Monday, Mr W. G. Hayward presiding over an attendance of eight delegates. It was decided to play matches on Saturday, 23rd inst., provided the. teams mutually agree. In the event of no agreement being arrived at the date would be fixed by the association. WILLIAMS SHIELD. Mr Stretton reported that the Waitakaruru club had decided to travel to piay challenging teams provided the challengers had travelled to Waitakaruru in the Laidlaw Cup competition. Considerable discussion arose concerning the control of these matches, delegates contending that the association had control. Mr Stretton said that his club had agreed to play the first match on an away court. There were four challenges, and two would be played at home and two away. Members admitted that the Waitakaruru club was within its rights according to the conditions. Mr McMillan moved that Mr Stretton be asked to confer with his club, pointing out that the view expresfed bj' the association was that all matches for the Williams Shield should be played on courts allotted by the association. and that with the consent of the Waitakaruru club this would apply this year.—Carried. Mr Stretton reported that the challenges were from tlie Hopai, Pateroa. Turua, and Turua South clubs in the order named. HANDICAP TOURNAMENT. The handicaps as drawn, up by Mr A. R. Vpwles were adopted. The association decided to handicap Mr Vowles at scratch, and Vowles ami Waite scratch. It was • decided to play the first round in two groups, east and west.
