KEREPEEHI AFFAIRS.

THE SCHOOL. Steady progress is being made with the additinos to the Kerepeehi school, and it is hoped that the new rooms will be so far completed when school reopens as to permit of them being used. LEADS WINGERS’ CLUB. The Kerepeehi Leadswingers’ Ohio has decided to hold a fishing excursion and picnic down the Coast near Coromandel on Sunday week. A launch will leave Kerepeehi early in the morning and pick, up the friends of members of the club along the river. SPORTS CLUB. During the visit of the Hon. R. ?> Bollard, Minister for Internal Affairs, to Kerepeehi last month he was ap- > proached by the Kerepeehi Sports Club and asked to look into the question of the legality of the sports ami to grant the club permission to again hold its meeting. This the Minister promised to do, and has recently informed the club that he was in com'mUnication with the Racing Conference on the matter. He stated that it might also be necessary for him to confei with the Justice Department. Since then the secretary has written asking if permission would be granted to hold a hack race meeting, as suggested by the Minister, but no reply- has yet been received. RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION. The Kerepeehi Ratepayers’ ana Citizen’s Progressive Association met on. Monday evening, Mr E. S. Masters presiding. .After considerable discussion on the administration of the county and the recent machinery loan poll the secretary was instructed to invite the ratepayers of Tuma and Netherton through their ratepayers’ associations to a meeting to be held in the Kerepeehi Hall en Monday, February 4, to discuss the whole question, In reply to a letter from the association asking that a launch be made available in cases of accident or other urgent necessity the Lands Drainage Engineer wrote stating that in such, cases a launch would be available, but the Department could not permit its launches to run in competition with those plying for hire.

The reply was considered unsatisfactory, as launches were always available for hire at Thames, but at times could not be obtained promptly owing to the state of the tide. The secretary was instructed to communicate with the Auckland office of the Department on the matter.

The secretary was instructed to point out to the County Council the number of horses and cattle permitted to wander on the streets of the township ;as it was considered that these were a menace to the safety of children.

; The necessity for a telephone at some place near the Kerepeehi corner to enable users of electric current to notify the Power Board depot of any failure in the supply was brought un by a member from that area, and it was decided to approach the Powe.' Beard and the county representative on the matter.

, Various complaints regarding the time taken to get into telephone communication with outside places were voices by members, and the association decided that the Chief Postmaster be written ta on the matter. After considerable discussion regarding the rumour that a survey was to be made for a railway route north of Ngatca to Pokeno via Waitakaruru and Miranda a resoluiton pointing out that the association had heard.that a deviation from the surveyed route was contemplated and urging that the railway should be completed as soon as possible, and along the route considered best from the national standpoint and where it would not unduly interfere with the navigation of the Piako River, was carried unanimously. It was decided to draw the attention of the Lands Drainage Engineer to the danger of certain narrow, deep drains in Matai Street. In response to a request from the Thames -Hospital Board it was decided to write to the Minister for Health urging him to recommend granting a subsidy on the money voluntarily contributed for the purpose of acquiring a section of land for a sire for a cottage hospital.
