COUNCIL’S MONTHLY STATEMENT. POSITION DISCLOSED. The financial position of the Haura.ki Plains County was given in the monthly statement to the . council meeting on Tuesday last. The riding balances a,t December 31, 1923, were all debit balances, and set out as follows : In Kopuarahi riding the general rates struck totalled £1122, of which £335 had been collected. The amount expended was £783,, leaving a debit of £448. Turua Riding : Struck, £lB7B ; collected, £456; expended, £1695 ; debit, £1239. Horahia Riding: Struck, £1264; collected, £261; expended, £958 ; debit, £697. Kerepcehi Riding : Struck, £940 ; collected, £6B ; expended, £696 ; debit, £628. Netherton Riding: Struck, £2441 ; collected, £290 ; expended, £1377 ; debit, £lOB7. Patetonga Riding : Struck, £1273 ; collected, £125 ; expended, £641; debit, £516. Ngatea Riding: Struck, £1032; collected, £325 ; expended, £767; debit £442Pipiroa Riding: Struck; £1052; collected, £251; expended, £837 ; debit, £586. Waitakaruru Riding: Struck, £1653; collected, £1011; expended, £1665 ; debit, £654. The anticipated amount of general rale is £6297.
The amount of rates in arrears at April 1. 1923, was £2337, Icing £462 in Turua riding,’ £931 in Netherton, £4119 in Patetonga, and £485 in Waitaknruru.
The receipts for the month of December totalled £1656 ,17s 4d, and in r eluded the following: General rate, £598 Is sd; hospital rate, £l3l 2s 10d ; Orchard Bridge rate, £lO 17s sd; Kopu Ferry rate, £l3 18s 9d ; Puriri Ferry, £ll 7s 4d; Kopu Ferry approach roads, £l7 17s Id ; Waitakarurti roads special rate, £4l 7s 6d ; Waihou bridge, £2 19s 4d ; Netherton roads, £ll 7s lOd ; Tahuna roads, £3 7s 8d ; antecedent liability, .£44 15s ; housing rents, £l9 5s ; motor registration, £1 5s ; dog registration, 7s 6d ; court costs and legal fees, i’l 16s 6d ; penalties- on rates, £27 8s 3d; refunds on advances to loan accounts, £712 3s sd.
The debit balance as per cash-book of the county fund account at December 31, 1923, was £3177 18s 6d. Accounts presented for payment were: Machinery loan, £260 9s 9d; Turua-Netherton roads loan, £242 Os 9d ; Netherton roads loan, £ll6 6s 40d: Kopuarahi riding, £3l. 9s 9d; Netherton riding, £l5 Us lid ; Ngatea riding, £l5 10s 2d; Horahia riding. Ils 6d ; Waitakaruru riding, £4l 6s 6d ; Pipiroa riding. 3s 6d ; Patetonga rid'ng, £1 13s 6d ; Kerepeehi riding, £8 : Turua riding, £1 Bs. Hikutaia quarry account, £172 7s 6d. General account, £548 19s Id. The balances in the loan accounts on December 31 were: Netherton roads loan. £3628 ; Kopu ferry approach roads loan, £272 ; Puriri ferry and approach road loan, £240 ; housing loan, £4076 : Ngatiapua East road, loan, £240; machinery loan, £8992 ; Netherton-Turaa roads loan, £9840.
