NGATEA HIGH SCHOOL.
MORE PpHLS NEEDED. CLOSURE THE ALTERNATIVE. Intimation has been received by the Ngatea District High School Committee from the secretary of the Auckland Education Board that as the number of pupils on the roll j£ the secondary department was very small, and that as yet only six guarantees had been received from parents of pupils intending to enter the school in February next, there would appear to be no possibility of reopenjng the school as a district high school. The Board regretted the possibility of closing the district higii school, and the secretary had been in~tructed to notify the committee of the position. It was hoped that the committee would be able to induce parents to co-operate in order to promote such an attendance as would ensure the maintenance of a district high school. On the present figures the Board had no course but to close the secondary department. Committeemen reported that the whole of the district from Patetonga to Waitakarurn had been camvassed, but with very poor results. It was decided that a thorough canvass of the remainder of the area should be made when the headmaster returned to Ngatea, and to make a strong protest to the Education Board against the ciass of secondary department teachers sent to Ngatea.
