PIG PRODUCTION.
HUGE MARKET IN ENGLAND. ‘ Considerable interest lias latelybeen taken in the possibility of the export of pig products from this country.’ 'writes a correspondent. “There is no reason why New Zealand should not have a share in the £50,OOL’.OOo to £60,00’0,000 imports of Great Britain. Last year Great Britain imported £55,000,000 worth of baeo'n and pork products, while New Zealand, capable of producing large quantities of pigs at a reasonable cost, only exported some few thousand pounds’ worth. AVith the decrease in the export of beef it is pleasing to notice that considerate attention has now been given to pis fattening. Much larger quantities are coming forward, and New Zealand should before very- long have a share of the many millions’ worth of po»-k products that have been ed into Great Britain. Giving an indication of the big increase in quantities coming forward, only recently the New Zealand Bacon Company put tin a record one day’s kill of 1070' pig«. This Is by far the largest number ever killed by any one concern in Australia or New Zealand.”
