TURUA TOWN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. « The regular meeting of the Turua Town Board was held in the Turua Buildings on Wednesday last, when the following members were present: Messrs J. Mules (chairman), C. Scott, A. P. Gardiner, F. Olsen, F. Beck, J. T. Davies, and the clerk, Mr J. E. Green. An apology was received from Mr A. C. Ansford. DEDICATION OF ROAD. A firm of Auckland solicitors wrote stating that the District Land Registrar required the consent of the Board to the dedication of certain roads in Messrs Bagnall Bros.’ block as approved of by the County Council. It was decided to accede to the rc-< quest, HALF-HOLIDAY. The secretary, Department of Labour, wrote calling attention to the fact that the Board must hold a special meeting during January for the purpose of deciding what day should be the statutory half-holiday for shops in the district. It was decided to take no action in the matter, .so that the Minister would fix the same day as is observed at present. PROPOSED TOWN HALL. Mr E. E. Gillman, architect, of Paeron, wrote forwarding sketch plans for the proposed town hall. He staT cd that the board had his in regard to the loan of £3200’ for th l ? building without the two shops and the £3600, which would include the two shops. In both cases he had included architects fees, £2OO for furnishings, £250 for land, and a margin of about 5 per cent, for contingenciesACCOUNT FOR METAL. \ The Plains County engineer, wrote enclosing an account for freight on metal "ordered through the council and delivered on August 25 last. VALUATION CHARGES. The Valuation Department wrote advising that the charge for revising the valuation roll for the town district amounted to £8 18s. Members remarked that this was money well spent by the Board. ELECTROCUTION OF DOGS. . The Thames Valley Poewr Board wrote thanking the Board for having brought before its notice the fact of the recent electrocution of dogs in Turua. The power board had gone fully into the matter, and, the officers concerned had been severely censured and advised that in the event of future neglect it would be punishable by instant dismissal. The Town Board was assured that there would be no repetition of such trouble. x ROADING LOAN. , ( The chairman reported that a large deputaton from outside the town board area proposed waiting upon the County Council at its next meeting to urge that the various roading schemes be expedited. Several members signified their intention of also being present if possible. The clerk reported that ne had, received a copy of the specifications for laying down the bitumen roads in the town area. These were accepted with the addition of the words “on contractors” in clause one. This would provide for the work being done in several' contracts. Mr' Gardiner said that nothing had been mentioned about the It was agreed to discuss the matter 'with the Council. It. w£*s dtecided to call tenders for the work by advertising in various papers THE SPORTS GROUND. Mr Davies brought up the matter of the control of the sports ground', and said that the sports club desired that some body be appointed to assume the control. Mr Gardiner said that Mr Bagnall had handed over the co. trol to the T. wn Board. Mr Davies stated that the club had done a great deal of work in improving the ground, and desired that something should be done to prevent the area going back into a wild state and the trees being destroyed. The club wafc prepared to raise money for the purpose of fencing the trees. It had been suggested that a comipittce should be appointed to control the area as a recreation ground under the Town Board. A domain board could not be appointed at present as the area was not yet a domain. Mr Gardiner moved, and Mr Scott seconded, that a committee, comprising three members of the Sports Club, three members of the Football Club, and three members of the
Board, be formed to take charge and assume the control and improvement of the sports ground.—Carried. Messrs Mule's, Davies, and Gardiner were appointed the Board’s representatives on the committee. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £2l 13s 8d were nassed for payment.
