TENNIS.

HAURAKI PLAINS ASSOCIATION. MEETING AT NGATEA. A meeting of the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association was held at Ngatea on Wednesday last, there being present: Messrs B. Frecklington (Kerepeehi), chairman; C. Stretton (Waitakaruru), D. G. McMillan (Turua South), J. B. McMillan (Kopuarahi), I* Penny (Kaihere), and A. RVowles (Hopai), secretary. An apology for absence was received from the president, Mr W. G. Hayward. NUMBER OF MATCHES. Mr C. Stretton brought up the mat- < ter of the number of matches to be plaved, and suggested that the second round of the tournament should be cut out. The two rounds woiuld require 14 fine Saturdays, and this would mean that no time would be available for other matches. Most of the delegates spoke in favour of the proposal, and the motion providing for the two pounds was unanimously rescinded and it was agreed that only one round should be played. It was resolved that the competition matches mifcsed last week owing to the wet weather should be played on Saturday next. HANDICAP TOURNAMENT. It was decided, on the motion of ' Mr D. G. McMillan, seconded by Mr C. Stretton, that a handicap singles and doubles tournament should be promoted. It was pointed out that those matches could be played on days by mutual arrangement among the entrants.. The entrance fees were fixed at 3s for gentlemen and 2s for ladies in the singles, and in the doubles 5s for gentlemen and 4s for ladies. The entries close on February 9. - REGRADING. Much discussion ensued on the question of the regrading of players. Finally it was agreed that the sixth man of the A grade team could play as first man in the B grade, and the first man in the B grade team could play sixth man in the A team at any time without reference to the association The ride regarding B plavers becoming A grade players if thev played two matches in the upper grade will be effective in this case. January 26 : Kerepeehi v. Turua, at Kerepeehi; Hopai v. Turua South, at Turua South: Pateroa v. Waitakarum, at Mangawhero • Kopuarahi a bye. February 2: Hopai v. Kerepeehi, fit Hopai; Pateroa v. Turua South, nt Mangawhero ; Kopuarahi v. Turua, at Turua.; Waitakaruru a bye. February 9 • Waitakaruru v. Kopuarahi, at Waitakaruru; Hopai v. Pateroa, at Hopai; Turua South v. Kerepeehi, at Kerepeehi; Turua a bye. February 23 ■ Waitakaruru v. Turua. at Turua: Turua South v. Kopuarahi, at Kopuarahi ; Kerepeehi v. Pateroa, at Kerepeehi ; Hopai a bye. B. Grade.—January 12: Kopuarahi v. Kerepeehi, at Kopuarahi; Waitakaruru v. Turua, at Turua; Hopai v Kaihere, at Kaihere. January 19: Turua v. Kaihere, at Kaihere ; Hopai ■v. Turuawhich have been missed, will be played at the first-mentioned places after the regular matches in each competition have been played. There will be no tennis on Saturday, February 16, 1924. the date of the A. and P. Show at Ngatea.
