BOWLING.

THE TE AIIOHA TOURNAMENT.

WAIHI TEAM’S VICTORY.

The bowling tournament at Te Aroha was brought to a close on Saturday afternoon. In the final of the games the Waihi team, comprising Masefield (skip), Hovell (third), Dai’3 ' (second) and Holmes (lead), met the Tc Aroha team, Ngakura (skip), Land (third), L. Boles (second) and T. Kir.schovich (lead), and victory went to the former by 26 to 11.

The pair's competition attracted a large entry of teams and some very interesting games were played. Hayden and Munro (Takapuna), and Gattland, senr., and Gattland, junr. (Onehunga) played off for the final. The game aroused great interest. At the fifteenth head the scores were: Gothland 20 v. Hayden 11, but from there on the former did not score. Both teams were 20 at the last head, and the final result was Hayden 22 v. Gattland 20. At the conclusion of the play Mr J. A. Clothier in a few well chosen words complimented the winners. He referred to the very happy memories he had of the Way in which the Takapuna team, whose representatives won the final, had treated him when he was living at Takapuna for a short time. Mr Clothier - also stressed the interesting nature of the fact that father and son, Messrs Gattland senior and junior, were the runners-up, and complimented them upon their happy association and performance. The trophies presented to Messrs Hayden and Munro were' silvermounted cake dishes, presented b) Messrs Taylor and Baxter, of the Grand Hotel. The tournament had been favoured with glorious weather, and the games played had caused much interest and pleasure, and this* little ceremony brought to a close a most memorable and pleasant tournament.
