DAIRIES AND COWYARDS

n POINTS WORTH NOTING. an interesting point was made byMr A. McKenzie, Government dairyexpert, in the course of a speech to dairy' fanners at Kairanga (states the Manawatu Standard). Many dairy yards were, he said, constructed in a totally wrong way. Dairying had been carried out in New Zealand for some 40 years, and the nidiMtry now produced some £16,000,000 per annum. Surely with an undertaking of such importance the question of establishing suitable yards should receive attention. The milkstand should always be erected on the windward side of the yard. The department did not ask farmers to spend money in fancy l sheds, but it did ask that theso should be erected on the most suitable spots, under the, most sanitary conditions. It was only by attention to these matters that they could expect tc turn out milk fit for human consumption. He emphasised that it the milk from one farm was bad it wad liable to damage all that day s supply l at the factory. He stressed the fact that if they wished to have a good name on the Home market thev must make every endeavour to send nothing but the best milk to the factories. This would be the best advertisement their produce could have.
