TRADE IN ARGENTINE.

DEVELOPMENT OF INDUSTRIES. EFFICIENT FACTORIES ; Some interesting impressions of tlie Argentine and Chile were given to a London "Daily Mail’’ representative by Sir Woodman-Burbridge, after a 5900-mile tour through those countries. “There is every indication,” he said, “that the Argentine and Chile are gradually recovering from the reaction in trade which set in some time ago, as there are distinct signs of an all-round improvement in all the important spheres of activity. -•The cattle trade, one of the most important industries of the Argentine, is in an excellent condition, and information from reliable sources points to the coming harvest being exceptionally good. Record profits are anticipated. “What impressed me most was the way in which home manufactures have developed. This applies in particular to leather, boots, silk, and woollen goods. The railways all appeared to ■be in a flourishing state, attributable to increased freight and increased traffic. In the big organisations periodical surveys of working expenses are made, and, while efficiency is maintained, large sums of money are saved. "Reports received regarding the nitrate industry,, which is Chile’s chief asset, were also very encouraging. These countries are still very young, and are* peopled by ambitious an.l progressive manhood, who are striving in every way to obtain their full share of the new world’s prosperity, which will materialise to a greater degree with the definite settlement of the present European situation”
