SCHOOL GARDENS.
RESULT OF COMPETITION. The home , garden competition among the pupils of the District High School has aroused keen interest during the year, and it is hoped that next year parents. will encourage a greater number of competitors tb take part in this desirable work. Mr J. L. Hanna, president of the Beautifying Society, and Mr L. McCaskill, agricultural instructor, as judges, accompanied by Mr G. H. Taylor, headmaster, on Monday last inspected 22 gardens, and were very pleased with the keen spirit shown by most 1 of the competitors. Prizes were awarded as follows :— High School pupils: Boy’s garden, Jar-k Eaddy ; girl’s garden, Nita Helling. Standard VI. BOy’s garden, Rudall Alp; girl’s garden, Freda Lawrence. Standard V : Girl’s garden, O’ga Grant. Standard IV: Boy’s garden, Athol Power; girl’s garden, Ruth Swann. Standard MT: Boy’s garden, Claude Wight. Certificates of merit to those gaining 20 per cent!, or more of marks were awarded to Jack Eaddy, Willie Leach, Nita Helling, Alan Somervell, Olga Grant, and Athol Power. Special mention should be made of the good work of Jack Eaddy, who gained the high tota) of 93 marks.
