— Of the 32 township sections at Waitakaruru offered for sale at the Courthouse, Thames, under the provisions of the Land Act, on-Wednes-day last only three were sold. These were bought by Waitakaruiu men at the upset price.
Many of the farms around have already assumed quite a parched-like autumn tint,, the drought that has characterised the present month having played havoc with the pastures—to say nothing of the milk cheques. The pessimists say- that the season is already past, and look dismal at the prospect. It is to be hoped that the badly needed rain will come soon.
Some 200 people accepted the pub-, lie invitation of Mr E. J. Walters to his place at Hikutaia on Sunday, when Mr A. Williams’ “Jazzaramba” band discoursed a delightful programme. The birds and animals, as well as the owner’s fine herd of Jer•seys, ai:c always on view, but the added attraction of the splendid music was responsible for the large attendance, The weather, too, was splendid, so that all enjoyed the visit thoroughly.
