SHOW JUDGING.
(To the Editor). Sir, —I would like a little space in the “Gazette” to ask a few questions regarding the Paeroa Show, of which I have read an account in your paper. To .start off with, I notice in the 15 &t tack Patch Abbey got first, and the same horse got first in the 13st hack, which seems rather out of place, for if they are one and the same why have two classes ? The next ithm is the mounted rifle horses, capable of carrying 14st; yet T see that the horses that got first and second also got first and second in flic list, hacks, which seems rediculout?. I hope no one will take offence at my questioning the judge’s decision, for it happens at all shows, and I do not think the judges are altogether to blame. I think it is the duty of the stewards to see that horses taking a prize should not be allowed in a different clas,s. I think Mr A. White struck the right note when proposing the toast of the exhibitors when he said they sacrificed a lot of time and expense; and I think it is the duty of the association to see that they get a spin for their money. I think it is high time that there was a judges’ association, and have one uniform method of judging. For instance, at some shows one judge classes 13st hacks, and when entered in that class at another show the animal is in his wrong class. It also applies to the hunting class. If anyone wanted to buy a hunter he has nothing to guide him, because at one show the judge will give the prizes to slowpaced horses and at another show the faster horses will get the prizes. I would like to know the proper pace for a hunter, fbr I think there must, be only one hunting : pace. A. HORSE FANCIER-
