BALL AT NETHERTON.

I SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. j ■ . i The Netherton Sports and Recreaition Club wound up its social evenings for the year with a ball held last Thursday, evening. The hall was beautifully decorated with nikait palms and with black arid red stream-, ers (the club’s colours). Different coloured balloons hung everywhere, land Chinese lanterns over the lights' I dulled the room to a beautiful colour. ;A tennis net with racquets and balls stretched across the stage completed ithe decorations. There'were between 17.0 and 80 couples present, people com- ! ing from Thames, Paeroa, Hikutaia, j Tu"ita, Kerepeehi, and Ngatea. Quite ' a number appeared in fancy costume, and the judges, Mr and Mrs McCullay of Paeroa, had a trying .time in picking put the winners. The selection was sp difficult that Mr McCullay generously donated two extra prizes for the most original pair and the best couple. The prizewinners were as follows: Fancy .dress, Miss Wells, of Paeroa, Gipsy; Mr E. Harold, Thames, Arabian Chief. Most original couple, Miss M. Sarjantp Sporting and Dramatic, and Mr E, Potter, Mexican' cowboy. ~ Best ■ couple,- Miss-1. Collett and Mr W. Potter as Squaw and Indian Chief, Twenty-three couples took part in the - waltzing competition, Miss McCullay,of Paeroa, and Mr Roy Morrison. of Netherton,- eventually winning the prize by popular vote. The music was supplied by the Williams’ Jazz Band, of Thames, and Messrs L. Rice, R. Morrison, and E. Potter made capable M’s.C. ~ An excellent supper was provided, this being in the capable hands of Mosdames Potter,'- Locke, Matthews, Taylor, and Sarjant, junr. j The ball was the most successful ever held in Netherton, and much credit is due to the untiring efforts of the secretary, Miss T. White, and the president, Mr C. Potter.
