HIKUTAIA AFFAIRS.

CHURCft. A meeting of parishioners was held after service a week ago last Sunday, when the vicar, the, Rev. F. B. Dobson, gave an account of the work done in his recently divided parish, such division necessitating a rearrangement of the finances. It was the opinion that a central vestry should be instituted and meetings thereof held periodically at whicu representatives from ■ all parts of the parish could meet and discuss matters that pertained to 1 the good of the pa’ ish as a whole instead of to the good of the isolated unit. A number of' accounts was passed for paymen, v, the wherewithal being in greater part obtained from the members of committee Present. SALVATION ARMY. The anniversary of the Sunday School conducted here under the auspices of the Salvation Army was celebrated on Sunday afternoon, when the parents and others present enjoyed the singing of the children and entered heartily into the services conducted by the officers of the Pheroa corps. In the evening the services were continued and were largely attended. BOWLING. Owing to the sale of work the bowlers were not so numerous as usual on week ends. Several enjoyab’e games, however, took place. In the paits competition A. R. Robinson and W. Knight (18) beat W. K. Morrison and G. H. Hannam (16), the game being' in doubt r,ight up to the last- head. Both skips were in excellent form. TENNIS. Owing to the'opening of the Paeroa Club’s' grounds, at which the Hikutaia club was well represented, the attendance was 'not as la*rge as it usually the chse 'on Saturdays. Some good games were played, most of those indulging having quite as much play as they wanted. ’ SCHOOL. One pupil of the local : school, Allan Faville, sat for the Junior National Scholarship’examination held at Thames last week. The Wharepoa school was represented by two pupils. The examination : for ' proficiency took place at Kopu on; Thursday. WEATHER. The following are the weather figures for November as taken at noon in the shade daily by the pupils of the district school: Average daily: (temperature 70.1 deg. F., average; barometric pressure 30.25; number of days on which no rain fell, 20 ; number of days on which rain fell,' 10; total rainfall, 2.35 inches.
