MUNICIPAL ENDOWMENTS
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. During the visit of the Hon. W. Nos, worthy, Acting-Minister of Lands, and Mr J. B. Thompson, Under-Secre-tary for Lands, to Paeroa on Monday afternoon last a deputation from the Paeroa Borough Council, comprising His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) and Crs. H. M. Shand, G. P. Lamb, and E. Edwards, waited on-the Minister with reference to the public reserves in Paeroa. ‘ The Mayor said that there was an area of a little over 3% acres of Crown land in the borough which the Council had applied tp have vested as a municipal endowment. The application had been made to the Department some six months ago, and when he was in Wellington, recently he had taken the matter v.p with Mr Thompson, but the whole question had been held np pending th« visit of the Minister to Paeroa. The portions of the Government township vested in the borough as municipal reserves were of no commercial value at all, said the Mayor, and were simcly the “fag ends” of swamp portions. There was also the clr 1 local grievance tnat the Government had handed over unformed roads in the Government portions of the town. Paeroa was in the unfortunate position of having no endowment land of any size, and the Minister yas asked to earnestly consider the claims of the borough. After viewing-the reserves in question, and also the area of land asked for. the Hon. Mr Nosworthy advised the Mayor that he would look into the matter on his return to Wellington and advise the Council, in due course.
