POWER BOARD.

THAMES VALLEY MEETING. - The monthly meeting of the Thames Valley Eletcric Power Board ’ was held at Te Aroha yesterday, when there were present: Messrs F. H. -Claxton (chairman), W. E. G. Willy, G Howie, J. Pohlen, J. W. Anderson, J. B. Thomas, F. M. Strange, C. A. Arthur, P- Grace, the secretary-man-ager (Mr R. Sprague), and the engineer (Mr N. G. McLeod), . REPAIRS TO LINES. The resident engineer, Public Works Department, Paeroa, wrote stating that'the Board's account for repairs "to the low tension line on 'Hubbard’s Road appeared to be excessive, as where the line crossed the road it was of bare copper, which, after being broken by the Departments drag-line dredge, had been repaired by the substitution of insulated • conductors, and the Department’s liability would, therefore, be for repairs to the original line only. The secretary said that half a chain had been broken and a. fault had? occurred and caused a lot of trouble. . The matter was referred to the secretary for attention. PAEROA BOWLING GREEN. The Paeroa Borough Council wrote stating that the Domain Board had installed a system of night lighting for the bowling green and asking-for a reduction in the. ordinary rate foi current. The council undestood that another borough was receiving a • similar concession. The chairman said that the other bowling club was receiving a concession, but it was not coming from the Board. On his motion the request was declined. SIDING ACCESS. The district engineer of the N.Z. Railways forwarded an agreement ■ covering the Board’s use of the rail-. -wa.y siding at Kopu. The Department - agreed to the terms of two years, as desired by the Board, and in view of the short time and the special arrangements for the receipt and delivery of waggons no premium would . be charged. It was decided to sign the agreement. PEAK LOAD. In reply to Mr J. Pohlen the chairman said that after, careful observation the engineers had found that the Board's peak loan occurred between ■the hours of 6 and 7. a.m. and 4-30,and 6.30 p.m. After consultation with the engineers it had been decided to issue an appeal to. all consumers asking them, to postpone as far as possible the using of electricity during the hours mentioned, and thus assist the Board to reduce its peak load.’ BOARD MEETING. It was decided that there would be no general meeting of the board during the month of January, 1924, but &-the -executive committee would meet -c ,on the evening of January 14,-1924. - FURTHER LOAN. j It was proposed that a poll to raise a further loan should, be taken before - March 31, 1924. The amount of the loan to be applied for to be £250,009, for‘the purpose of further reticulation. ” ELECTROCUTION OF DOGS. “I am instructed by this Board," wrote, the clerk of the Tuma Town Board, “to report to you what appears to have been a serious position with regard to the electrocution of two does by 'coming into contact with electric wires lying on the road (the main road in the Turua town board area).” This, the writer continued, was due to the tfires being coiled round the poles. The board averred negligence against certain people. It had" also received complaints from settlers throughout the district concerning the wires being so close to ’the school, where children might in- - nocently come in contact with same, and a full inquiry was asked for. A firm of lawyers at Turua also wrote to the board claiming £2O, being £lO for each of the two dogs electrocuted, allegedly through the negligence of the board’s servants. The chairman said that a mistake ha<l been made, and he was of the opinion that the protests were quite in order. The troubleman had been warned to be more careful, but the "wires had been made alive by means of a time.switch. Mr G. Howie said that the price claimed for the dogs was too high. In reply to Mr Thomas the chairman said that the troubleman had given instructions about the wires, and was afterwards called away from Torua. It was more a misunderstanding* than negligence. Mr Willy, said that the wires should not be left so loose and hanging so low, even if they fere not likely to - be made alive. It was decided to send a reply to the writers concerned that steps wbnld be taken to prevent a repeti- - tier of the trouble, and that the nrwager would go further into the matter. GREETINGS. As it was the last meeting of the board this year the chairman took the opportunity of extending seasonal greetings to the members, engineers,, and staff.
