Addressing the Minister of Lands at Patetonga on Saturday last Mr /!• Whiteman, on behalf of ttie Settlers’ and Ratepayers’ Association, stressed the urgency of. a direct road and canal between Patetonga Paeroa. He pointed out the, disability the sectiers of Patetonga- were living under owing to the lack of roads, and said that they were now 24 miles from the nearest town. The proposed road would bring Paeroa within 12 miles of Patetonga. For three miles the road had been formed, and the rest was over good country, and the association hoped .that every means would be taken to expedite the work. In reply the Hon. Mr Nosworthy said that-he could-not hold out any promise as to when; the work would be done. It was part of the drainagescheme, and would eventually be done, but he could not promise anything as tie could not see any immediate prospect of it being, carried out.
