The Board had no power to retain Mrs Loving as headteacher at Kerepeehias Mr Twist holds the appointment, and had been granted leave of absence until February or sooner if he chose to return before then: Received. ROADING SCHEME. Mr H. Hoff said that the ratepayers of the township are protesting against inclusion in the rating area, as their roads were not to be done; They would support a scheme that would include the metalling of the township roads. They were not opposed to- the riding getting their own own roads dona, but realised that if thb township roads were not included a further loan would have to be ra'sed over the township area for this purpose. The secretary said that every ratepayer in the riding had received •written notice of the meeting and should have been present to voice their views. it was pointed out that many township ratepayers befog Government officials were prohibited from taking an active interest in local affairs. Mr W- Thompson supported the idea of increasing the proposed loan to permit of the township roads being metalled. Mr Hbff ; sttid that there 1 would be a big expense incurred in putting the loin 'proposal;' Would it not be better j to increase the proposal before it was advertised to ensure that the poll be carried. > Mr L. A. W. Bagnall said that it would be cheaper for the township settlers to be included ip the riding ; scheme than to go on their own, Mr J. Mclntosh supported this. Mr W. Booth asked why the Government had not metalled the byroads just as a private individual would be compelled to do before the Council would accept them. The secretary said that this question had often been discussed. The reply was that the King could do no i wrong. Many of thp township road had not yet been handed over by the Government to the Council. ■Mr Booth suggested that the Ministers be approached when they visited Kerepeehi on the following Monday. Mr J. Mclntosh asked the township residents if they thought it fair for the rural settlers to pay maintenance rates while they had a permanent road to pay for the metal roads in the township. The chairman supported the idea of waiting upon the Minister. If nothing eventuated, then something further should be done. It was pointed out that a deputation could, not be appointed as most of the town- ; ship settlers ■ were Government em- ; ployees. A great deal of argument ensured, ■the country settlers contending that ; tliey • were giving the township assistance and the township residents contending that the back area would use th*. roadS and'were not acting fairly ■in not including the byroads. If the township roads were not included a ■block vote against the loan would be record*!.' Finally, Mr W. Thompson moved j that a deputation be appointed to : wait s on the Minister ■on Monday. This was seconded by Mr Mclntosh ’ and carried. i it was decided that the deputation comprise" Messrs J. Twist, E. S. Masjte r s, and W. Booth. It was decided that a meeting be he’d on Monday evening to hear the report of the deputation and-that’a | special effort be made to get a rejpresentative meeting. ■ ESTABLISHMENT OF CHURCH. i Mr W. Booth brought up the question of the establishment of a churcn I for Kerepeehi.
