LOCAL AND GENERAL.

_ * - Mr H. Poland, M.P., has received telegraphic advice from the Hon. W. Nosworthy that owing to his having made a prior arrangement to visit Henderson he regretted that he would be unable to open the Hauraki Show at Paeroa to-day, and alsjo that the Hon. R. F. Bollard has consented to open the Raglan Show, and cannot attend at Paeroa. - A mild diversion was caused in Normanby Road, Paeroa, yesterday afternoon, when a swarm of bees took charge of a portion of the street outside the "Gazette” Office. All pedestrian traffic was suspended for a time, until the bees moved on an easterly direction. The secretary of the Ohinemuri Acclimatisation Society has received advice from the staff officer in charge of the regimental district that the Defence Department has approved of the sale to acclimatisation societies of small arms ammunition .303 mark VI. The price to be charged is £lO per 1000 rounds, including box, f.o.r. or f.o.b. Whether it was typical of the rural side of life in Paeroa. or contempt for the Ford car is known, but it was rather amusing to see a decrepit old horse, with a sack on its back in lien of a saddle, hitched up to the radiator cap of a "Lizzie” belonging to a prominent busy man in the main street yesterday morning.
