HAURAKI PLAINS ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association was held at Ngatea on Thursday last. There were present: Messrs W. G. Hayward (Ngatea), A. R. Vowle,s (Hopai), C. Stretton (Waitakaruru), B. Frecklington (Kerepeehi), J. Low (Kaihere), and R. B. Penny (Kopuarahi). An apology was received from the Turua delegate, Mr G. J. Walker. It was decided to affiliate with the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, and to meet the cost of affiliation the club affiliation fees were fixed at 30s per annum. The annual report and balancesheet was read and adopted. The report stated that ( 60 A grade players and 139 B grade players had been registered during the season. The balance-sheet .showed receipts totalling £9 Ils 2d, and an expenditure of £1 7s lOd, leaving a credit balance of £8 3s 4d. A hearty vote of thanks to the ladies’ committee for the manner in which the annual ball had been organised was carried unanimously. - The. method of playing the Laidlaw Cup competition was discussed at length. It was pointed out that under the present "knock-out” system the weak teams had only one game, ani also that the best team did not always win. Deciding the competition by points would give all clubs an equal number of games, and thereby tend to improve the standard of play. It Was decided to ask the donor of the cup o consent to the competition being played in rounds, and as this would increase the number of matches to be played, a recommendation was made to the incoming delegates that the draw for the association matches be made in time for them to be commenced on December 15, and that the matches be continued regularly, regardless of holidavs. To promote interest in singles and doubles championship arnd handicap matches delegates were recommended to endeavour to secure small trophies from their districts. Mr W. G. Hayward was re-elected president of the association, Mr BFrecklington vice-president, and Mr A. R. Vowles secretary and treasurer.
