TURUA TOWN HALL.
DESIGN APPROVED. The plan of the proposed town hall for Turua was discussed at length at a special meeting of the Turua Town Board held on Wednesday evening for that purpose. Mr EL E. Gillrnan* architect, of Paeroa, was present by Invitation. The cost of the building, land, and fittings was not to exceed £3OOO, and the seating accommodation was to be at least 400. It was agreed that the auditorium should be about 60ft by 48ft, the outer: walls to be of iron, and the inner walls of wood panels and fibrous plaster. The flooris to be of 3in matai and the ceiling of asbestos. The stage should be JL2f,t wider than the auditorium, and'deep enough to meet the requirements of theatrical companies. It would be large enough to serve as a supper room. Opening on to it should be a kitchen and an anti-room, the former fitted with a copper, cupboards, and a sink. The cloakrooms should be 18ft by 10ft, and situated in front of the auditorium. Two shops, 18ft by 15ft, should open on to the street, and the picture projecting machine boxe placed above the entrance hall. Ventilation of ,the auditorium should be by means of fanlights near the ceiling, and sufficient fire exits should be provided. The provision" of a gallery was discussed, but the conclusion arrived at was that this was not required, and that it would greatly increase the cost of the building by necessitating a longer stud, Mr Gillman promised to prepare plans of a building as suggested and submit them to the board at its next meeting.
