TURUA TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The regular meeting of the Turua Town Board was held on Wednesday evening, when there were present. Commissioners J. Mules (chairman), C. Scott, F. Beck, A. P. Gardiner, F. Olsen, J. T. Davies, and the clerk, Mr J. E. Green. OVERHANGING TREES. The Thames Valley Power Board wrote notifying that certain trees overhanging the power wires must be removed. The work has already been done. HITCHING POSTS. The clerk reported that he had notified several business men that the Board would be glad if they would erect, hitching rails near their premises, He had been informed that the matter was receiving attention. Mr. F. Truelove was granted permission to erect a rail in front of his shop. BROKEN WIRES. An account for £5 6s 9d was received from the-Thames Valley Power Board for repairs to lines. The clerk reported that he had inquired for details. The. chairman said that apparently the account referred to the damage done to the high tension wires by a falling branch from one of the trees that the Board had.since been asked to remove. It was decided to hold the matter over until further information was available. METAL SUPPLIES. The chairman reported that, together with Crs. J. C. Miller and W. Madgwick and Messrs J. T. Davies and Mr Cameron, he had inspected the Kauaeranga quarry. There was no doubt that unlimited quantities of excellent metal were available. The firm was prepared to give a quote for metal on punts at Shortland. Mr Davies also reported on the matter, and said that the contractors would be prepared, when their plant was in operation, to meet the Board very easily if a large quantity was' ordered. THE ROAD LOLV Mr W. Madgwick was invited to state what the Council proposed to do in regard to the road loan. Mr Madgwick said that the Council would push the matter as muon as possible. He undertook to see that the plans and specifications were supplied as soon as possible and to find out what was the procedure in regard to raising the loan. Members pointed out that when the specifications were available inquiries from various firms could be answered. In regard to the Kauaeranga quarry metal, Mr Madgwick said that the transport question would be considerably eased by the firm offering to transport the metal to Shorthand provided the punts were supplied. The metal would be measured at this end of the journey. The metal was good, and the members of the firm wen practical men who were anxious to do business. They had been engaged in the metal business for years, and had been punting from the Kauaeramga for the Lands Department. The clerk reported that at least 4000 yards of metal and 900 yards of chips would be required for the roads scheme.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT. The clerk reported that during the month £53 10s 5d in rates had been collected, making £174 6s 7d in all this year. The cash in hand at the beginning of the year was £5O. Expenditure for t,he year to date was £236 12s 3d, including £l6 12s 9d paid during the'month, but not including about £5O for an account passed but not »yet paid. The bamk overdraft was £B6, and. the limit £l6l. Accounts totalling £l2 19s 3d were passed for payment. ' ‘ ' DRAINAGE. Mr Gardiner asked when the conference with the Drainage Board would eventuate. Mr Mules said that he would bring the matter before the Drainage Board and endeavour to have a deputation received at next meeting. Messrh A- P. Gardiner, F. Beck, F. Olsen, and A. C. Ansford were appointed the deputation. ' RIVER IMPROVEMENTS. Mr A. P. Gardiner moved t;hat the Public Works Department be asked io supply information in regard to the river improvement scheme. He said that the Drainage Reference Board was practically a defunct body, and was ignored by the Department, so it was useless asking the Board’s representative for information. Seconded by Mr Mules and carried. FOOTPATHS. Mr Gardiner asked what the Board intended doing to the Hauraki Road footpath and the factory corner culvert. The Board had intended turning out and doing the work. He suggested that as the members were now ve”y' busy, tenders should be called. A 12ft pipe was to be installed and a small amount of filling was to be done. The question arose as t,o whether the Drainage Board permit the use of the pipe, and the matter was deferred.
