POWER BOARD WORKS.
MONTHLY STATEMENTS. MANAGER’S REPORT. The Manager submitted the following report for the month to yesterday's meeting of the Thames Valley Power Board :— Transformers.—The transformers ordered from Turnbull and Jones, Ltd., arrived at Te Aroha on the 26th. They were immediately dried out, and most of them are in operation on the lines. Owing to various causes the Ferranti Company was unable to ship transformers until October 31. Theie is a letter from A. D. Riley and Co. on the matter before you this day. Street Lighting.—The Turua Town Board has now arranged for the erection of 15 street lights at Turua. The erection of the balance started on Monday, and completed by the end of the week. Waikino. —The reticulation of this town should be completed within the next two weeks. A start has; also been made on the installations of houses, and this work also should be completed at an early date. I would suggest that the Board install earth detectors at the Paeroa tower similar to those installed at the sub-station at Waikino. Power Account.—l have made application to the Public Works Department, Hamilton, for a reduction in the account for power supplied during the quarter ending September 30. There is a letter before you this day with reference to the application for your instructions. Consumers. —The total number of consumers connected to the month ended October 31 was 2287. Consumers in Thames and Te Aroha boroughs are not included. There are now 804 motors conected to date, of which 709 are 2h.p. milking motors. A very great demand is now coming for water heaters, and those already installed are giving every satisfaction to the farmers. The canvasser is now impressing upon the ratepayers the necessity for getting connected to the line before March 31 in order to avoid the paying of non-consumer’s rate, which will be operating on April 1 next. Fower Charges.—l would like to suggest that t,he Minister of Public Works be approached with regard to reducing the charges for electricity' supplied by the Department to the Board. The purchase of electricity will be in the vicinity of £16,000 per annum by the Board. There is no question whatsoever but that the Department can reduce the charges on “the face of Horahora now being a paying proposition to the Department. ENGINEERS’ REPORT. The engineers, Messrs Gauvain and McLeod, reported as follows:— Waikino.—The high tension wiring has been started, and a supply should be given this month. Thames Section.—A low tension line has been run down Kirikiri Road from the main Paeroa-Thames line and put into service during the month. In order to suit the convenience of the Public Works Department at the Kauaeranga River to facilitate the erection of a bridge, it has been necessary to deviate the PaeroaThames main line for a distance of about 15 chain. This work has been carried out at the expense of the Department. The Kauaeranga Quarry line and transforming plant is all complete and ready for supplying power. Hauraki Plains Section.—The Ko-puarahi-Orchard Road ll,0(W-volt, line has been completed,- and wiring of same has started, and the Horahia Road low tension line has .been completed. The majority of the work done on this section during the month has been in connection with service lines, and it has been necessary to extend the Board’s low tension lines for a distance of about 4% miles to give a supply. Public Works Department.—Applications, accompanied by six sheets of drawings, have been forwarded to the Public Works Department for the inspection of transmission lines and transformer stations. The inspection will cover the following work: 28 miles of 11,000-volt circuit, 9 miles of 3300-yolt circuit,, 53 miles of 415volt circuit, and 20 transformer stations. General—A large number of service lines have been constructed during the month, and a good deal of the time of the gangs has been taken up in the construction of these and connecting same up to the Board’s main lines.
