CADET RIFLE MEETING.

COMPETITIONS AT PAEROA. ■in Saturday afternoon last a successfur rifle meeting was lie'l;d on the Paeroa 25-yards range, when 43 membros of the 45th Company (Paeroa) senior cadets competed for trophies presented by Messrs R. B. Pehlington, W. McCullay, and Ni, S. Cassrels. In addition to the trophies a liberal cash prize list was provided by the Defence Department. These rifle meetings are being held at regular interval's to render the individual cadet; proficient in the use of the rifle, to acquaint him' with the capabilities of the weapon with which he is armed, and to give him confidence in its power and accuracy. He thus learns to develop a capacity’ for accurate snapshooting and rapid fire. The competition fired on Saturday comprised: Application, 5 rounds ; rapid, 10 rounds in 90 seconds ; snap-shooting, 5 rounds at 4 seconds per shot. The shooting generally was verv good and showed that a keen interest was taken by the cadets in the competition. The outstanding feature of the meeting was the remarkable achievement pf Cadet Gordon Wells, who, although last to shoot, piled up the winning score of 70 points out of a possible 75. Cadet Wells is one of the youngest shots in the district, and has been a member of the cadets for only’ eight months. The prize list and scores are as fallows:— Cadet G.
