EDUCATIONAL PICTURES.

POLICY OF DEPARTMENT. PROGRAMMES FOR SCHOOLS. The mark of mediocre pictures has become implanted on the minds of boys and girts in our schools, and this fact, unless if receives immediate attention, will leave its effect on the rising generation. Educational authorities throughput New Zealand have been seeking a means to combat this evii, and it. is fait that any effort to make our girls and boys better, brighter, and healthier men and women will receive whole-hearted support. During the past year the questoin of providing pictorial instruction for school children has been brought before the public, and it is felt that in view of the opinions expressed by headmasters, education boards, and school committees the proposal of the Educational Picture Company of New Zealand is a sound bne. The Minister of Education has approved of an arrangement with the company to screen in detail the subjects taught in classes by means of text-books and oral tuition. This final link in the educational system will give children more complete knowledge of their subjects of study and equip them with information, which in their examinations will prove invaluable. The plan of operation is that sufficient films will be chosen for ten programmes, which will be viewed by the children of schools throughout the Dominion during the school year. These programmes will be so regulated as to be shown to the children of each school every four weeks. This will place the arrangement on a systematic basis. The first screening of such pictures, it is anticipated, will be held in the Central Theatre early next, month.
