DOMAIN BOARD MEETING. The Paeroa Domain Board met on Thursday evening, after the Borough Council meeting. LIGHTING OF BOWLING GREEN. The following letter was received from the secretary of the Paeroa Bowling Club:— "My committee are prepared to make the undermentioned offer in consideration of the report after your meeting of Tuesday last: (1) That we undertake to have the green sufficientily lighted with nine lights of 609?.p., such lights to be placed in such a position as to evenly light the whole green to the satisfaction of your green superintendent. (2) That* the Council pays the cost of installation, the cost not to exceed £7O, payable £35 on completion of the work on April 1, 1924. (3) The Club undertakes to make and collect a levy of Is per night to each player using the green and to pay to the Council 75 per cent, of the gross takings, from which ithe Council is to pay for the current used and tlhe maintenance. (4) The Club, further, is prepared to guarantee the repayment of the whole of the cost of installation within five years at t|he rate of not than £l5 per year over and above the cost of current used.” Cr. Edwards said that the height of poles had been considered by Hayward Bros., and they thought that instead of using 42ft poles, as suggested by the Power Board, pales 15ft in length could be used. Poles of similar length had been found satisfactory for such purposes in America, and the cost of installation .would be lessened. He thought the offer from the club was a fair one, and an arrangement that would prove remunerative to the Board. The Mayor moved that the request should be granted, .subject to the specifications for the installation meeting with the approval of Cr. Flatt and the domain superintendent. Seconded by Cr. Brenan and carried. Cr. Edwards said he was afraid that th?re would be a diversity of opinion between the Power Board and Hayward Bros. The Mayor said that it was the wirh of the Council that Cr. Flatt should be satisfied that the job would be properly done and the safety of the borough’s interests protected in every way. Cr. Flatt said that he had no wish to interfere with the proposed length of poles. It was a matter of indifference to him so long as the lights were satisfactory. Tn reply to an application from the Bowling Club it was decided to allow the use of the greens, which were now ready for play. The rental was fixed at £7O. TENNIS COURTS. Cr. Bain said he was of the opinion that, it was unwise to allow the tennis courts to get into a further state of disrepair. He thought that the courts had been'penalised to the advantage of the croquet and bowling greens. His "Worship said that an estimate would be brought do,wn for tarring and sanding the courts at the next meeting. Cr. Edwards drew attention to the number of school children, and even teachers, who had been in the habit of playing on the courts in boote. He thought that some action should be taken at once. The Mayor concurred, and moved that it be an instruction to the do-. m*in superintendent to order players off the courts unless they wore regulation tennis footwear. Seconded by Cr. Edwards and carried. Some discussion .took place as to the means of obtaining revenue from the courts. Cr. Silcock was of the opinion that annual tickets should be issued to players. School children, irrespective of age, to be- charged ss, and adults 15s. Cr. Bain suggested that 2s 6d per annum was ample for school children under 16 years of age, and 10s 6d for all players over the age of-16, with preference to be given to adult players. Cr. Silcock said that to give preference to adults, he would sugest that children be debarred from the courts after noon on Saturdays. The Mayor said that if children claimed the 2s 6d privilege they should be required to give way at all times. Cr. Edwards moved that the annual tickets should be £1 Is. Such a fee would be more consistent with the fees levied by the Board on the bowlers and croquet players. Crs. Brenan and Flattl said they did not see why children should be asked to give way to adults. They did not hold with that suggestion. The Mayor said it would require a system that would be equitable. It was decided that} rules governing the tennis courts should be drawn up by the Domain Committee and submitted to the Council for final approval. After further discussion it was decided that the fees should be fixed as follows: Men £1 Is, ladies 10s 6d, school children 2s 6d, for season tickets. CROQUET LAWN. A formal application was received from the Croquet Club asking for the use of the lawns again this season, an-I inquiring the rental. It was decided that the use of the lawn be granted as from October 2<‘, and that the rental for the season would be £2O, subject to an additional 10 per cent, penalty if not paid before January 31, 1924.
