NGATEA. MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY. The final meeting of tlhe season of th? Ngatea Mutual improvement Society was held on Friday- evening. The annual report showed that four debates, with community singing, and a concert had been organised during the winter. The balance- sheet showed donations of £8 10s to the township lighting fund and £5 to the library. The balance carried forward was 3s 6d. After considerable discussion it was resolved that the school-commit-tee be written to protesting against the playing of tennis on the school grounds on Sundays. A vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Harvey for their hospitality to the committee during the season concluded the business. PIPIROA SPORTS CLUB’S DANCE. Another of the Pipiroa Sports Club’s dances was held in the Pipiroa Hall on Tuesday evening of last wee’:, and proved as equally successful as its predecessors. There were 65 couples present, including a big number from up the river and from Thames, An added attraction was a waltzing competition, and of the 15 couples who competed the judges, Messrs G. Goldthorp, R. Steedman, and W. Hutchinson, selected Mr T. Smith and Miss M. O’Donnell, of Ngatea as entitled to the gold medals presented by the Club. Tne music was by Mrs Potter, and extras were played by Mrs W. Gray and Mrs T. O’Carroll. HOPAL OPENING OF TENNIS SEASONThe Hopai Tennis Club opened its season on Saturday last. There was a big gathering of tennis enthusiasts, and most of the clubs on the Plains were represented. The courts are in .splendid order, and with an increased membership the season promises tk> be a very successful one.
