KEREPEEHI. MEETING OF CITIZENS. The second meeting of the Kerepayers’ Association and Citizens League was held in the Kerepeehi Hall on Thursday last. Mr E. S. Masters presided over an attendance of about twenty-five members. The rules of the -association, as suggested at the previous meeting and drafted at the executive meeting, were adopted with slight amendment. POSTAL FACILITIES. A suggestion of the executive that an application be made to have a permanent post office erected at Kerepeehi was brought up. Mr G. A. Avey said that a permanent post office erected on the post office site would be very desirableHe moved that a request be forwarded to the Chief Postmaster. Air W. Herkt mentioned that there was a proposal to have a rural mail delivery established in the district. This would tend to raise the status of the office. The motion was seconded by Mr J. M. Thompson and carried unanimously. GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES. The next matter suggested by the executive concerned facilities in ca,se of accident. The chairman said that the executive had been approved by other bodies in the township who desired support in a request to the Lands Drainage Department that a launch be made available in case of accident anywhere on the river if desired. Mr G. A. Avey said that a representative of the Football Club had approached the Leadswingers’ Club and asked its support. The two clubs had decided tp approach the Citizen’s League and ask its co-operation. Mr J'. M. Thompson moved, and Mr G. A. Avey seconded, that the request, as suggested, be forwarded to the local drainage engineer.—Carried. A CASE OF HARDSHIP. The chairman said that the executive had been approached by other bodies with a request for co-operation in raising money for the wife and family of a local man who was at present in the hpfepitlal. Mr J. Murdock stated that a sum of money had already been collected and presented, and that no further assistance was required. THE DOMAIN. The chairman brought up the matter of the local domain control. Mr L. A. W. Bagnall said (that it was for the people of Kerepeehi to decide whether the county council should be asked to acquire and administer the ground or tc form a domain board. Mr H. Hoff said that something should be done as soon as possible. The ground was available free, ’ and other townships were talking of paying £135 an acre for land for a domain. He suggested that it would be a good thing if the present executive of the association obtained control. Mr Avey moved that the secretary obtain all particulars of the matter and lay them before a later meeting. Seconded by Mr W. Herkt and carried unanimously. SCHOOL MATTERS. Mr G. A. Avey brought up the matter of a presentation to Mrs Loving, who had filled the post of schoolmistress during the past eleven ■ months. Mr H. Hoff supported the proposal, and said that the frequent changes ■in the staff had been detrimental to the progress of the pupils. Mrs Loving had spent much extra time in coaching the children. Members expressed the opinion that it was unfair to transfer a teacher just prior to the annual examinatic ns. It was decided that the association take up the matter, and Meissrs Thompson, Devereaux, and Hoff were appointed a committee to attend to the matter in whatever manner they thought fit. Mr J. M. Thompson moved that the secretary write to- the Education Board and ask that Mrs Loving be retained until after the examinations. Seconded by Mr Avey and carried. Mr Thompson said that it would be a pity to see the big trees around the school removed. Mr H. Hoff said that the trees were 60ft high, and the additions to the school would bring the building underneath the trees. The Board’s architect and a member of the Board had said that the trees must be removed. The falling leaves lodged in the spouting and polluted the tank water. Mr Thompson advocated removing the tops of the trees only. They were a valuable asset, and had been planted by the natives when the school was a native school. Members suggested that the waller be filtered and that fine wire netting be placed over the tanks and spouting or that the school be moved. Finally it was decided that; the Education Board be asked to have the trees topped instead of removed. roading. Mr G. Mclntosh moved that a special meeting of ratepayers only be, called for Saturday week at 1 P.m. to consider matters in connection with the roads of the Kerepeehi riding. and also drainage. Seconded by Mr Bagnall and carried. NEW MEMBERS. Twelve new members were; enrolled.
