PAEROA RUGBY UNION.

ALLOCATION OF BOUNDARIES. There was a large and enthusiastic meeting of footballers and followers of Rugby at the Returned Soldiers’ Club on Wednesday evening last. Mr P. E. Brenam, president of the Paeroa Rugby Union, occupied the chair. The chairman of the Union (Mr JWalmsley) and the secretary (Mr R. B. Pentlington) were also present. Mr? Brenan said that at the annual meeting of the union held in April last it was left in the hands of the management committee to arrange for a boundary system if considered necessary. He said that the present season had clearly established the necessity for the adoption of boundaries. Mr Walmsley said that the secre taries of each club had been supplied with a plan showing the lioundaries affecting their respective clubs. The secretary then defined the suggested boundaries as foltows: Karangahake Club. —Along main range, through gorge to head of Waitok.i 'Creek; down Waitoki Creek and ac?’oss the saddle of the Old Te Aroha Road, down old Te Aroha Road and straight across to the abattoirs, then up the creek to the main range. Komata-East Club—From the main range along the boundary of the Karangahake Club to Waitoki Creek; down Waitoki Creek to the Waiho.i River; along the river to Tirohia, then up main road to Criterion bridge; down Ohinemuri River to Wnarf Street; up Wharf Street :o Normanby Road; up Normanby Road to Thames Road ; along Thames Road to Bprough boundary; down Borough boundary to railway line; along railwav line to the Komata station; up Komata Station Road to Thames Road; back along Thames Road to Komata Creek; up Komata Creek to Bradshaw’s stream; then up Bradshaw’B stream to the main range. Suburbs Club.— Along main rpad to Komata-East boundary; down Ko-mata-East 1 boundary to river; along river to Townsend’s Road ; up Townsend’s Road to Thames Road, and In a straight line to the main range. Netherton Club. —Bounded by Pekapeka Road, Awaiti Stream, and Waihou River. West Club. —Starting at Komata station, along railway line to Borrough boundary; up Borough boundary to Thames Road, along Thames Road to Normanby Road, down Normanby Road to Wharf Street, and along Wharf Street to the river; up the river to the Criterion bridge, along Te Aroha Road to Tirohia, returning along river to Komata Station Road ; then up the Komata Station Road to the railway. It was moved by Mr Walmsley, and seconded by Mr B. Neil, that the report of the boundaries committee be adopted, Mr Powen said he was of the opinion that the Suburbs Club boundary should be moved from the Komata Station road to the Komata Creek. : Mr R. H. Heappy (Netherton) supported the suggestion. Mr Vuglar said he thought that the boundaries should be arranged so that there would be four teams of equal merit. Mr Potter was of the opinion that the boundaries as drawn up were a fair arrangement. Mr Pitts said that it appeared to him that the boundaries were only in favour of one club. Mr McLeod (Karangahake) said that the boundaries as suggested left his club with only thirteen players. Mr Vuglar said that he would agree to the boundaries if the Has. Club was extended to Hikutaia. The resolution accepting the boundary committee’s report was then put, with the addition. that the Suburbs . Olub’s boundary be extended as suggested’by Mr Power. Mr D. Haskell moved as an amendment that the East Club’s boundary should be extended so as to take a straight line frpm Wharf Street through the Domain to Thames Road. Seconded by Mr L. Smith. After due consideration the chairman said that the boundary committee regretted it could not see its way to make a further alteration to the boundaries of the East Club. Mr Haskell said that his club would lose three, players by giving the Suburbs club the extension moved by Mr Power, Mr Vuglar asked that the members of the boundaries committee tell the meeting their various reasons for deciding on the boundaries. The chairman said that he thought Mr Vuglar’s remarks were not quite complimentary to the committee concerned. Mr- Walmsley then briefly explained that very careful consideration had been given to the - clubs individuailly * The committee was of the opinion that Paeroa should only have two senior teams. For the past two seasons football in the district had gone downhill. He thought that there shotfid not be a junior team unless it was affiliated to a senior club within the borough. The boundaries would remove this difficulty. Mr Walmsley quoted an instance that had occurred this season when the Komata Club was unable to got a sufficient number of players to go to Netherton, although there was a strong junior team in the town. The boundaries as constituted at present should obviate such a position in future. He said that it would be necessary to incorporate certain rules governing the boundaries whereby no club would be accepted for affiliation within the borough unless it had a senior and junior team. The resolution was carried by a substantial majprity.
