DISTRICT NEWS.

KEREPEEHI. HAT J, SITE ASSOCIATION. A general meeting of the Kerepeehi Public Hail Site Association was held in the Kerepeehi Hall on Monday evening and proved rather stormy. There was an attendance of 16 members, and Mr I. D. Jones was elected chairman pro tern. Mr J. A. G. Wilson explained the position in regard to the previous meeting. The annual report and balancesheet, which showed a credit of £l6 8s lOd, was adopted. It was pointed out that the hall site had been purchased and the money paid over, but the title was not yet. in the possession of the association. Many new members were nominated and elected. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Chairman, Mr Masters; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. A. Avey; committee, Messrs J. MThompson, W. Herkt, W. E. Vickers, I. D. Jones, W. M. Thompson. A vote of thanks to the retiring secretary, Mr J. A. G. Wilson, was carried by acclamation on the motion of MY; Devereaux. After considerable discussion Mr Devereaux moved and Mr Thompson seconded that the committee be asked to report on a means of raising money for the purpose of building a public hall. The chairman declared the motion carried by eight votes to seven. NGATEA. A DEBATE. Another of the interesting debates organised by the Mutual Improvement Society wa,s held on Tuesday evening, the subject being “Is the League of Nations a Success ?” Argument for the affirmative was put forth by Mt. J. Reid, and Mr Payne spoke in the negative. On being thrown open for general discussion Mr J. Bratlie spoke against and Mrs Terrill and Messis Schultz and Blacklaws in favour. The chairman, Mr W. J. Crabbe then summed up and put the question to the meeting. Thirteen votes were recorded in favour of the argument put up by Mr Reid and .seven in favour of Mr Payne. Musical items were contributed by M’ss Lux, Mr S. Tarver, Messrs Tarver and Schultz, and Misses Lux and Mason, Messrs Tarver and Schultz. TURUA. SOCIAL CLUB. There was an attendance of 35 members at the weekly meeting of the Turua Social Club, and a very enjoyable time was spent. Several interesting boxing bouts were witnessed, and musical items were contributed.
