KEREPEEHI. HOSPITAL SITS FUND. The position in regard to the Kerepeehi hospital sit,e fund was explained at a meeting held in the Kerepeehi Hall on Friday evening. Mr J. M. Thompson presided over a small attendance. The secretary, Mr J. Jenkins, stated that to date £146 6d had been raised. Four subscription lists cir-ulated in the township had totalled £lO4, and the balance had been made up by holding dances, etcMr J. M. Thompson said that he thought Kerepeehi had done remarkably well in collecting that amount within the past twelve months. However, on going through the lists it was apparent that many who could give had not done so. These settlers should be asked to contribute, as it was not fair that the burden should always fall on the willing horse. A letter was read from the Thames Hospital Board stating that the Board had, a,t the committee's request, written in May last to the Commissioner of Lands promising to notify him within a month or two whether it desired to purchase a certain section in Kerepeehi for a hospital site. The Board, therefore, desired an answer to their letter of August 23, stating when the money would be forthcoming. In view of the fact that the sum required was £146 Is, it was decided that the secretary forward the money immediately. As,, however, many settlers had not contributed to the fund, it was decided to canvass the district. The surplus could be kept in hand for improving the section if so desired. PROPOSED ASSOCIATION. At the conclusion of a public meeting held in Kerepeehi on Friday evening Mr L. A. Bagnall said that the ■time was opportune to lay before the residents of Kerepeehi a suggestion that a ratepayers’ association be formed for the purpose of advancing the district. Several other townships on t,he Plains had ratepayers associations, and these were very active in pushing the requirements of those districts. Kerepeehi had a bright future before it if the townspeople and settlers only pushed. To that, end he suggested that a Progressive League or a Ratepayers' and ,Citizens’ Association be formed. The suggestion was taken up enthusiastically, and several men spoke of the need of a live organisation to bring forth matters concerning the advancement of the district. . £such matters as permanent roads, the proposed drainage board, the "A. and P. show, the hospital, street lighting, etc., were mentioned. Finally it was decided that Mr Bagnall convene a. public meeting on Wednesday, September 26, at 8 p.m., in the Kerepeehi Hall to organise a Ratepayers’ and Citizens'' AssociationPATETONGA. FANCY DRESS BALL. The fancy dress ball held on Tuesday last in aid of the Patetonga Tennis Club was a huge success. The hall was decorated with hundreds of ferns, streamers and flags, and with coloured bulbs, which cast an illusive glamoum over the many -lancing figures, and proved especially effective in the Twilight waltz, when, with the aid of the falling cpnfet,ti the place seemed a veritable fairyland.
