CURRENT NUMBERS REVIEWER. The popularity of magazine reading, is undoubtedly growing. This is in/a measure due to the high cost of books, but more particularly to the high class and selection of the stories they contain. The “London” for August, just to ha"id, contains eight stories, four articles,, and two supplements. A further attraction is given by the addition of eight picture pages, showing the playgrounds of America - arid Brighter London. The special articles are “Playing at Love” (W. Pollock), “Queer Company” (William Le Quex), “How to interpret your dreams,” arid “Tne Gentle Art of Winning,” which is a talk on auction bridge, by A. B. Manning Foster. “Detective” Nos, 15 and 16 are packed with thrills. Each number contains some 100 pages of the finest mystery stories that have a gripping effect once the article is commenced. These magazines have struck an eritirely new note, .as the articles are from men who have been in contact with criminals all their lives. Students of criminology and penology , will be interested in this publication. “Hutchinson’s Mystery Story” an-1 “Hutchinson’s Adventure Story” are a set that should not be overlooked i'J the magazine world. The first has complete stories by Stacy Aumonier, W. L. George, G. B. Stern,. Marjorie Bewen, E. Snell, and others, and a “Topical Tennis Article,” oy F. Gordon Lowe. The “Mystery” has a long complete novel of Egypt—’’The Vengeance of Sewek” —and many gripping stories of mystery crime and detection by the best writers. The “Adventure Story” has a great new African romance by F. A. M. Webster, arid many stirring stories. “Harmsworth’s Red” is still a sporting favourite, and the last two numbers are wall up ,to the high standard set, in the former tions. The “Wide World” is a magazine •%, fop men, and this number has some exceptionally interesting articles. Its fascinating travel articles and amazing tales are collected from all over the world.
