Word was received in Paeroa this morning that the Farmers’ Union store at Katikati had been entered by burglars last night The safe had been blown open and over £lOO in cash stolen.

The large plate-glass window in front of Mr Raffill’.s shop was broken on Sunday night. From t(he fact that two stones lay on the footpath corresponding with the two holes near the top of the window, the act appears ,to have been a deliberate one.

The next sale in Paeroa by the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co., Ltd., .will be held on Monday, 17th inst.

Owing to the steady t,one in the London market a rise of Id per pound in the local price of butter is announced. This makes the i etail price of superfine butter Is 8d per pound, first-grade Is 7d, and second-grade Is 6d.

At. the beginning of February last, at Hikutaia a man on whom a family is dependent sustained injuries tjmt will in all probability prevent him from doing any hard work again. The local lodge of Druids has with commendable spirit taken up the matter, and in order to give him and his family some financial assistance are holding a social in the Hikutaia Hall on Thursday next. “Roll up and help a, good and deserving cause,” is what is ■ asked by the advertisement, appearing in this issue.

We were to-day shown a German one mark note which was issued in Berlin on August 12, 1914 and taken from a German prisoner in the war zone by Mr R. Hodson, of Paeroa. The mark is printed on a tough piece of parchment, and is about 4%in by 2.%in. It is numbered 474375353- The scroll work «n the note and the German coat-of-arms are neatly executed in a dark green shade. Although the mark is of a .smaill size one can easily imagine the quantity ,of material used in producing them at the rale of about 58,000,000 to the English £ sterling, the present rate of value.
