DISTRICT NEWS.

NETHERTON. TENNIS CLUB. On Thursday evening, August 30', a largely attended meeting of the Snorts and Recreation Club was held in the schoolroom. Mr C. Potter was in the chair, and he briefly explained that the meeting had been called with the view of forming a tennis club, seeing that the 't.ennis courts wore finished and would be open for play at an early date. All present agreed to form a committee, with power to add, and enrol members. Nearly 50 members have been enrolled. It was decided to affiliate with some tennis association, the coming season, and the secretary was instructed to obtain all necessaiy information. It was decided to hold a dance and euchre- tournament in aid of tennis funds -and to hold a monster concert at a later lart,e, the arrangements to be left in the hands of Mr Nicholls.

NGATEA. HALL SOCIETY. A meeting of the executive of the Ngatea Hall Society was held on Thursday evening. The manager of the Bank of New Zealand wrote asking for a fetter authorising the reduction of overdraft limit. It was decided to notify the bank that the society contemplated purchasing a section alongside the hall, and with the bank’s permission would not reduce t|he limit. The matter of securing the section was discussed, and it was pointed put that the Anglican Church would exchange its section for another suitabfe one. The matter was left in the hands of Mr W. G. Hayward to make investigations. A vote of sympathy to Mrs H. A. Shaw in the loss of her husband was carried in silence. A vote of sympathy to Mr S. Phillips. with hopes for his speedy recovery, was carried. Mr E. Walton ( the society’s solicitor, was authorised to a,ffix the seal to certain documents. The secretary was authorised to purchase a table for the hall. Accounts totalling £4 4s lOd were passed for payment.
