DRAINAGE BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hauraki Drainage Board was -held in (the Turua Buildings on Friday last. There were present Messrs G. Gray, (chairman), J. Mules, R. H. Heappy, R. Baker, D. G. McMillan, and the clerk, Mr J. E. Green. SUBSIDIES, Mr T. W. Rhodes wired from Wellington that the Minister had approved a subsidy of £7OO, 10s for £l, on account of £l5OO, provided on the supplementary estimates towards prosecution of drainage operations.—Received. A SETTLER’S DRAIN. D. Troughton, Wharepoa Corner, wrote asking the Board to deepen the road drain from the outlet at the Netherton side of his section to his centre drain. This had silted up, interfering with his drainage. The chairman said that Mr Troughton wanted the drain deepened to permit his tile drains to function. Mr D. G. McMillan said that the trouble was with the centre drain. It had not been fenced and had been broken in. The position would never be .satisfactory until the Board enforced the fencing of drains. If the drain were fenced the Board might consider improving the centre drain. There was sufficient fall, but there was a hump about fifteen chains from the road. He moved that the matter be left in the hands of Mr Heappy and himself to open up and improve Trough ton’s centre outlet and to spend whatever might be necessary. Seconded by Mr J. Mules and carried. WORKER’S COMPENSATION. The South British Insurance co., Ltd., wrote acknowledging receipt of notification of an accident to one of t)ie Board’s employees and enclosed a claim form to be filled in and signed.—Received. PIAKO ROAD DRAIN. Eight settlers of Piakp Road petitioned the Board, drawing attention to the needs of the drain on ths north side of that road and asking that the Board consider having the improved batter continued for the remaining distance east to the comer of Piako and Hauraki roads. The chairman said "that the drain had closed in near Oparia Road and a man had been put on to open it up. A good job was being done by the contractor at the rate of Is a yard. So far three chains had been completed. • Messrs Mu'les and Heappy said that they had inspected the drain, and recognised that the work was very necessary. On Mr McMillan’s motion, seconded by Mr Heappy, the request was granted. Mr Mules said that the settlers should be asked to erect fences from the drainside to the settlers’ fences to prevent stock from wandering between tjie drain and the settlers’ fences. The matter was left iu the hands of the area member, Mr Mules, with power to act. The Board then went into committee to discuss the revaluation and finance. It was decided to discuss the matter further alt a special meeting.
