TURUA ROAD LOAN.
PROPOSAL APPROVED. A proposal to borrow the sum of £7750 for the construction of bitumen roads in the Turua Town Board area was placed before the • ratepayers on Monday last and unanimously approved. The result of the poll was :— For the proposal — 42 Against the proposal __ 0 Informal __ — 1 The poll was a remarkable one, as there were only 65 ratepayers eligible to vote. The reading scheme is to improve, metal, and lay down in bitumen the following; Hauraki Road, from the Willow Drain to the northern boundary of the Town Board district, but excluding the experimental strip near the post office Raratuna Street, fromOparia Road to Hauraki Road, six chains of Awa Street, 18 chains of Oparia Road, and 67 chains of Piako Read. The loan is for a period of 36H years, and the interest, sinking-fund, and charges will be paid by a special rate of 5d in the £ upon the unimproved value of all rateable property in the special rating area,
