Word comes from Wellington that a bit of bombshell has been dropped into the Paeroa Borough Council office in the shape of a petition from a number of residents living on the outskirts of the to>vn praying to be excluded from the borough area. The monthly meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council takes place on Thursday next, The following vital statistics for Paeroa for the month of August, as .supplied by the registrar, Mr J. G. McDougall, were : Births, 5 ; deaths, 1 ; marriages, 1. We have just to hand a song entitled “Mother, you're my sweetheart,” the words of which were written by a local lady, Mrs E. A. Palcnsky, and the music by Edouard Hesselberg. The song has a pleasing air and refrain, while the words are very appealing. It should certainly take on, ami is being published at 2s per copy. The following rainfall figures for Paeroa for August have been supplied by the local office of the Public Works Department: The total rainfall for the month was 3.'55in, Rain fell on 13 days, the heaviest fall being on the 9,th. when 1.21 in were recorded. We are in receipt of three interesting and attractive catalogues pertaining ,to the sales of pedigree Jersey cattle by Messrs A. Buckland and Sons, Ltd., of Auckland. The first catalogue deals with the Auckland Metropolitan Jersey Cattle Club’s annual sale, which is to be held in the Westfield yards to-morrow, commencing at 11.30 a.m. On September 13 the well-known pedigree Jersey herd of Mr R. F. Wilkinson’s is to be offered for sale in the Horse Bazaar, Pukekohe, and a. descriptive catalogue has been issued, in connection with this well-known “Ensley” Jersey Herd. The Franklin Jersey Breeders’ Club is holding its annual sale of pedigree stock in the A. and P. Showgrounds, Pukekohc, on Wednesday, September 19. This sale comprises some 145 lots, and includes some very highly bred stock. The catalogues can oe inspected on application' to t,he “Gazette ” office.
