NGATEA. CONCERT AND DANCE. The Turua Concert Party,, art) the invitation of the Ngatea Mutual Impr< vement Society,, gave a most successful concert and dance at Ngatea on Wednesday evening, the hall being well filled. Patrons were well pleased with the fare provided, the programme consisting of a wide variety of turns, which kept <t,he audience in go'id humour. The items rendered by the Turua Orchestral Party were very acceptable,! and were much appreciated by the audience. The firs: part of the programme consisted of a Nigger Minstrel troupe, and was responsible for frequent laughter and applause. Many humorous exchanges and stories were indulged in by the corner men, while the solos and choruses were particularly pleasing. Solos were given by Messrs Sutton (Swanee), Johnston (Golden Kippers) Cassin (Ragtime Violin), A. Walker (Laughing Song), A trio was given by Dr. Bathgate and Messrs Cassin am! Henderson, while a humorous quartette by Mesdames Walker and Dr. Bathgate and Mr Henderson was one of the best items of the evening. The second half ofi the programme opened with an orchestral item. Mrs Robinson sang “ Skies are only bright” in a very pleasing manner, and for an encore responded with “My Task.” Another popular vocalist was Dr. Bathgalta, who was heard ,to advantage in “ Mate o’ Mine,” with Coming Home” as an encore. Mr McAllister was, heartily applauded for his violin solos. Songs were also given by Messrs Henderson, Cassin, Johnston, Walker, White. Mr and Mrs H. Walker delighted the audience with a humorous duet. The Riverside quintette, consisting of Messrs A. and G. Walker, Johnston and Henderson, and Dr. Bathgate gave a series of topical verses about various residents, eta. This original item was the most appreciated of any given during the evening, The concluding item was a solo and chorus by the members, Mr G. Walker being the soloist. During the evening Mr Payne thanked the Turua Concert Party for their assistance and for the excellent programme they had given. After supper dancing was indulged in for a few hours. The proceeds are to be devoted to the Ngatea lighting scheme. ’
