» ; WAIKATO MARKET REPORT. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:— Beef. —The yardtags lately have been somewhat better, due, np doubt, to the fact that swede crops have practically disappeared. Values still continue to advance, and it is impossible to gauge how far this may yet extend. It is certain that butchers are inclined to view the outlook with some little concern. Mutton.—There is a continued scarcity of mutton,, and values are rapidly rising. A pen of really well finished sheep is becoming a rare sight. ; Store Cattle.—The advance in the value of beef has to a considerable extent been reflected on steer cattle, and values have firmed. A strong inquiry exists for this class, but with little inquiry for empty cows, and, fortunately, the are fairly flush. Young steers are the scarcest product in the live stock category, whilst there is a very apparent surplus of heifers, the demand for which is extremely weak. Store Sheep.—The markets are very bare and private business is far from extensive. Ewes with lambs at toot may shortly be looked for, and will undoubtedly be popularly received. Values in all branches are very flrm, and advancing. Dairy Cattle—The clearing sales have practically concluded for the season. Business now is chiefly with .that section that might be termed “flitters,” namely, cows which, having failed to give satisfaction in thenlast abode, are seeking a lease of fresh pasture where t,heir shortcomings may not be observed. Good dairy heifers have advanced, and in a*l markets are briskly competed for. Pigs.—There has been a decline in the values of . fat pigs, due, no doubt, to the better yardings. Store pigs still meet with strong competition: indeed, values in this branch seem to have exceeded the limits that a clear appreciation of the outlook mends.Horses.—rA good inquiry exists for all good draught animals, and indications point to a good season. We quote as follows :— Bullocks, heavy prime £lO 15s to £l2 15s, medium £9 to £lO 10s ; cows, heavy young £8 to £lO, medium £5 5s to £7, forwards £3 10s to £4 ss; steers, forward 3% to 4%-y ears £4 15s to £6, stores £4 to £4 10s ; cows, stores £1 12 s6dto£2 7s 6d; steers, best 3-year £3 15s to £4 15s ; heifers, rising 2-year r.w.b., Jersey, £l6 Is to £l5, Shorthorn £6 to £8 ss, Holstein £7 10s to £9 ; empty 2-year heifers, best Shorthorn £2 5.s to £3, medium £1 15s to £2 2s 6d; empty 2-year steers,, best Shorthorn £3 5s to £3 15s, medium £2 10s to £3; yearling heifers, best Shorthorn £1 15s to £2 ss, Holstein £2 5s to £3, Jersey cross £3 10s to. £5 ; yearling steers, best £1 15,s to £2 10s, medium £1 10s to £1 12s 6d, weedy £1 to £1 ss.
