So far we have not had enough warm weather to attract even the most adventurous of flies, states the Overseas Daily Mail, but when he does venture out he will probably find himself the victim of an interesting experiment. In various houses he may discover that a room has been painted blue for his especial benefit—that is, of course, presuming that the spirit of inquiry is as strong in our midst as one hopes it is. For the suggestion has been put forward that flies have an unaccountable aversion from blue. Its author, Mr. Duckham, of Sevenoaks, first had his attention drawn to the subject by observing the immunity from flies of blue-painted cow sheds and the blue-painted interiors of the native barracks in Trinidad. He asked a labour superintendent in' Trinidad to make furthur observations, and his report, which Mr. Duckham has just received, states that no flies have been seen in an experimental room since it was painted blue, and that mosquitoes were fewer than formerly. It would be interesting to hear from readers in hot countries where flies abound whether they have ever had any experience corroborates this theory. They but exist who seek the shade Lest pure ozone their lungs distress, . Fresh air and light for man was made, And sunshine for his happiness. The changing seasons make life's round And all must, coughs and colds endure ; But prompt relief is always found, In Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure.
