HELPING FARMERS.
SUPPLYING PEDIGREE BULLS. OFFER OF CHEAPER MANURES. At the annual meeting of the Hauraki Plains Co-op. Dairy Co. at Tur.ua on Friday last Mr A. H. Rogers, chairman of directors,, introduced several matters affecting .the welfare of farmers. He mentioned that the company had had a herd-testing scheme in operation for a number of years. A Government official visited the factory monthly, and he was given the use of the company’s testing instruments and chemicals to test samples supplied by members. He urged suppliers to make greater use of the facilities offered. The cost was only 2s per cow per annum. The question of the improvement" of herds by the introduction of pedigree bulls was also discussed. Mr Rogers mentioned that a certain firm had offered to supply farmers with pedigree bulls on terms if the dairy company would guarantee payment. On suppliers naming the breed, they desired, and giving particulars in regard to age, price, etc., an expert would‘choose an animal to suit their requirements. Payment could be made on the basis of 25 per cent, down and the balance in six equal instalments. Suppliers were urged to give the matter their mature consideration, The company was also prepared to supply farmers with manure® on better terms than could be arranged elsewhere. Monthly deductions could be made from suppliers’ cheques. The matter was worthy of consideration.
